[Free]dom Fridays: The Yellow Power Movement
Exploring Asian-American movements for liberation & freedom
Location
Online : Blackboard Collaborate
Date & Time
October 16, 2020, 2:30 pm – 4:00 pm
Description
[Free]dom Fridays are designed to provide a virtual space to have an open dialogue about social justice and identity-based topics with other participants.
This session will examine the rise and decline of the Yellow Power movement, the activist roots and complications associated with the formation of a pan-ethnic "Asian American" identity, and contemporary Asian American movements for liberation and justice. Time and attention will also be spent on the impact of COVID-19 on the resurgence of covert and overt forms of xenophobia and anti-Asian sentiment.
All undergrads, grads, staff, faculty and alumni are encouraged to attend! If you have any questions or suggestions for a future [Re]fresh Friday or [Free]dom Friday, please email Erin Waddles, Coordinator for Student Diversity & Inclusion at waddles@umbc.edu or The Mosaic at mosaic@umbc.edu.
