Mundo Lingo: Henna Heartthrob

This collaborative series was created through partnership and as a “deluxe” expansion of the English Language Institute’s (ELI) Conversation Café. Snacks, games, and icebreaker activities are almost always provided, after which participants are introduced to the history of “tangible” attributes of culture (e.g. artifacts, food, art) or other languages. Mundo Lingo encourages you to practice your multilingual skills and share your cultural identity with our community members.

This session will explore the history and cultural significance of henna (mehendi) and how it is used in modern day South Asia. We will discuss how it can be appreciated while avoiding the problematic issues of cultural appropriation. Refreshments will be provided, as well as an opportunity for some basic henna designs.
