Description
This co-facilitated workshop series focuses on various underrepresented and/or marginalized populations. Our goal of the series is to provide UMBC community members with the basic practices for allyship, specifically for the highlighted population.
This workshop will discuss how to assist people with mental illnesses that practice a religion or spiritual faith. This worship will cover how religion can have a positive and a negative on how mental health is perceived. Focusing on providing insight and furthering one's knowledge to be an effective ally.
After a brief discussion with religious and spiritual leaders on the unique experiences of people with mental illnesses, this workshop session will highlight better ally practices. Topics will include contemporary accessibility issues, community building and potential problematic practices. All undergrads, grads, staff, and faculty are encouraged to attend! For any questions or a disability based accommodation, please email Idania Ramos, Mosaic Intern for Religious and Spiritual Student Engagement at idramos1@umbc.edu or Campus Life’s Mosaic at mosaic@umbc.edu.
