IMPORTANT UPDATE: Title VII Transgender Rights Order

A Message from the UMBC Associate VP of Human Resources

Dear Members of the UMBC Community,

I am writing to let our community know that campus leaders are aware of the recent order from the U.S. Attorney General requiring the U.S. Department of Justice to remove the protections extended to transgender people in 2014 under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. We want to affirm that UMBC remains dedicated to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for all students and employees. Guided by our own institutional values and policies, UMBC will continue to take active measures to prevent and combat all forms of gender and gender identity-based discrimination.

Information about UMBC’s Non-Discrimination Policy is available on the Human Relations website. For additional support, our community members can reach out to the UMBC Counseling CenterUSG Center for Counseling and ConsultingWomen’s Center,University Health Services, and other support resources. You may also find information about our diversity and inclusion initiatives at diversity.umbc.edu.

We would also like to use this opportunity to thank all of the members of our community who work every day to make UMBC a safe, caring, and inclusive learning community. Over the coming weeks and months, we will continue to monitor developments and keep our community updated.
